SHORT CIRCUIT STUDIES

OBJECTIVE/PROCEDURE

The intent of a short circuit study is to determine the maximum available fault current available at all points in the power system. These calculated values are then compared to the individual overcurrent protective devices and other components in the power system to ensure they are adequately braced to withstand the fault currents.

The following faults are simulated for each study:

  • Bolted three-phase

  • Single line to ground

  • Line-to-line

  • Double line to ground

For each fault X/R ration and magnitude are reported and compared to the devices in the power system.

SOFTWARE

RKV Engineering utilizes the latest version of SKM PowerTools for all short circuit calculations.
